Words That Identify and Tell of Messiah
Born of a Virgin
A reading of this verse brings different arguments to the surface... but we want to eclipse all notions that the word virgin here means nothing less than a woman promised to marry a man... look a bit further... while we are convinced that the woman is a ''virgin,'' we also note that the prophecy of Isaiah is of little significance if the birth does not represent a sign — something unique and clearly out of the ordinary. What sign is there in a normal birth? None! ...in a virgin giving birth?
Also, those who argue the Hebrew word 'almah,' which is translated into English to 'virgin'... was in fact translated from Hebrew into Greek by Jewish scholars (translating the Septuagint) using the Greek word 'parthenos' (virgin).
The Jewish Messiah would be born of a virgin, Isaiah 7:10-14:
''Moreover the LORD spoke again to Ahaz, saying, Ask a sign for yourself from the LORD your God; ask it either in the depth or in the height above."
''But Ahaz said, "I will not ask, nor will I test the LORD!" Then he said, "Hear now, O house of David! Is it a small thing for you to weary men, but will you weary my God also? Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.
The name ''Immanuel'' means ''God with us.'' Messiah as a man is also God and on earth for a time is with us.
